Presentation by Perry Ground, Turtle Clan member of the Onondaga Nation of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy
Free and open to all

The Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) and The History Center will host this lively and engaging presentation in which Perry Ground will give an overview of the history of this very misunderstood holiday. The presentation will discuss the actual events of 1621 in Plymouth, the relationship between the English settlers and the Wampanoag who lived in the area and how this story became the holiday we know today. The concept of thanksgiving held by many Native Americans will be emphasized throughout. Although they were not present in Plymouth in 1621, connections to the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) concepts of Thanksgiving will be discussed so that teachers may utilize this information within their New York Social Studies units on Native Americans.

Quilt Raffle
During the event, MRC will be raffling off a beautiful Lakota Star Quilt, made by Anna Firethunder, an 81 year-old Oglala Sioux woman at the end of the presentation. Raffle tickets are $5 each or $25 for six tickets and will be available at the event. For those who already purchased raffle tickets, you do not need to be present to win.

Light refreshments will be served and the presentation is geared toward adults. Teachers in the ICSD will receive staff development credit, as well as a copy of the presentation for use in the classroom.
