Ithaca, NY--Ithaca's Winter Recess teachers fest, the nation's first and only communitywide celebration of state educators, returns for its fifth season, Feb. 18-27.
Approximately 5,000 teachers and family members are expected to attend this winter's edition, up from 3,200 in 2010. Since its inception in 2007 more than 11,000 educators and family members have attended.
Winter Recess offers teachers and district employees a chance to relax and refresh among friends in a community built on education. The event coincides with the annual Presidents Week school recess held throughout much of the Northeast.
"Once again, we have a great event in store for teachers and their families," said Fred Bonn, director of the Ithaca/Tompkins Convention & Visitors Bureau. "The calendar is fabulous and we have more restaurant and retail deals. It's going to be a great week."
Winter Recess celebrates teachers, district employees and retirees with special events, activities and deals throughout the community. Last February's edition included a calendar of 93 events and offered a huge selection of dining, shopping and entertainment deals from 163 area businesses. Most events are free and open to the public, though discount deals are restricted to educators and their families. Deals, events and more will be updated throughout the winter at IthacaLovesTeachers.com.
