State Park Gorge Tours

Here's the current schedule of guided gorge tours and events in Ithaca's four State Parks. This calendar runs through Sept. 4, 2011. Future dates will be posted as they become available.

Thursday, Aug 18

11:00 A.M., Robert H. Treman State Park, Ithaca.
TWO GORGES IN ONE.  Enfield Glen has rocky and wooded sections. Explore both sections on this ½-mile walk to 115-foot-high Lucifer Falls. Meet at the Old Mill in the upper park off NYS Rt. 327.

Friday, Aug 19

10:00 A.M., Taughannock Falls State Park, Trumansburg.
MUSEUM OF THE EARTH LED GORGE WALK.  The Paleontological Research Institution has been offering summer gorge walks for 12 years.  This is the third of four walks in memory of James E. Potorti, who died in the September 11, 2001 attacks.  Meet at the start of the Gorge Trail by NYS Route 89.

Saturday, Aug 20

1:00 P.M., Taughannock Falls State Park, Trumansburg.
TALL TALES OF TAUGHANNOCK FALLS. Walk with a park naturalist to discover the origins and nature of one of the highest waterfalls in the Northeast. Meet at the start of the Gorge Trail by Route 89.

4:00 P.M., Taughannock Falls State Park, Trumansburg.

7:00 PM., Buttermilk Falls State Park, Ithaca
FIRESIDE TALES WITH THE ITHACA STORYTELLERS.  Join us for variety of stories that are best heard around a campfire near the base of beautiful Buttermilk falls. Meet at the swim area in the lower park off Route 13.

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Taughannock Falls State Park, Trumansburg.
SUMMER CONCERT SERIES: THE SIM REDMOND BAND.  Their infectious blend of African-influenced reggae-tinged roots rock combined with beautifully sung lyrics full of hope, love and lessons learned give the band a deeply honest, positive, sound. http://www.simredmondband./  A $5 vehicle concert-parking fee helps to support the concert series, and everyone is welcome to bring picnics and blankets and enjoy music by the shore of Cayuga Lake. 8:00 P.M., Robert H. Treman State Park, Ithaca.
CATCH A MOVIE UNDER THE STARS.  Join us for a free screening of the 1917 silent film The Great White Trail. This film stars Doris Kenyon and is one of the many silent movies that were filmed right in Ithaca. There are even scenes that were filmed in the gorge at Robert H. Treman State park!  Presented by the Ithaca Motion Picture Project (www.ithacamotionpictureproject.org) in collaboration with Finger Lakes State Parks.  Live musical accompaniment by the Cloud Chamber Orkestra (Robby Aceto, Peter Dodge and Chris White). The screening will take place in the Old Mill parking lot, so please bring lawn chairs and a picnic. Rain date: Sept 3, 8:00P.M.  Meet at the Old Mill in the upper park off NYS Rt. 327.
