Nov. 20 + Dec. 20 – Holiday Farmer's Markets at Press Bay Alley
Beat the crowds at the grocery stores and stock up on all of the supplies you'll need for a delicious, seasonal, and locally-sourced holiday feast. This market will feature more than 20 local farmers and food producers selling everything you need for a celebration including vegetables, pastries, apples, herbs, mushrooms, pork, maple syrup, chicken, sausages, apple cider, hard cider, pickles, and more! Dec. 1 – Trumansburg WinterFest
Just 8-miles outside of downtown Ithaca sits Trumansburg, NY, a small village with lots of character, great food options, and the ability to call itself home to Taughannock Falls. A true taste of Americana - The Trumansburg WinterFest is excited to be celebrating the 23rd year of our cornerstone event. The Festival brings together area businesses, organizations, and community members, providing winter activities for kids, adults, and entire families. This year the Festival will feature Hilby The German Juggle Boy, and the Fall Creek Brass Band! We will also be welcoming Santa and lighting the tree, offering horse drawn carriage rides, plus many more FREE family fun activities! We’re shutting the street down so you can meander through downtown and wander into our local businesses and enjoy food and beverage pairings, handmade goods, live music, and community merriment! Then get cozy by the fire at the library and enjoy a seasonal story and treats.
Dec 6, 7, 8 – Ice Fest in Downtown Ithaca
Ice Fest is an annual tradition in Downtown Ithaca! What holiday season would be complete without a celebration of cold weather and cold weather sports…like Ice Carving! Witness the nation’s finest ice carvers as they compete for $9,000 in prizes during 3 rounds of breathtaking competition. The festival features impressive display sculptures, fire demonstrations, the ever-popular Ice Bar: an outdoor bar made entirely of ice, serving Bacchus Beer, wine, and hot cocoa, and a tasty Chowder Cook-off. The Ithaca Ice Festival ice carving competition is a National Ice Carving Association sanctioned event.
Dec. 8 – Ithaca Chowder Cookoff 12-5pm
The Chowder Cook-off heats up on the Commons and surrounding streets including Aurora, Cayuga and Dewitt Mall! Ice Festival-goers can stay warm by sampling over 20 different traditional, exotic, and gourmet chowders from local restaurants competing to be crowned our next Chowder Cup Champions! Sampling tickets are for sale in advance and during the cook-off downtown.
Dec. 22 – International Rutabaga Curling Championship at theIthaca Farmer's Market
Since 1996 the sport of rutabaga curling has rocked the Ithaca Farmer’s Market. The games open at high noon upon the arrival of the torch borne by a toga-clad individual running the eternal rutabaga flame in from “Mt. Cruciferous”. The Rutabaga Goddess (pictured at the top of this page) leads the assembled throng in a moving “Parade of the Athletes”. After a celebratory toss of ceremonial first rutabaga, the Commissioner declares the games open.
