Arnot Forest

The adventure begins in the village of Newfield where you’ll pass the only remaining covered bridge still in daily use in New York State. Then on to the 4,000-acre Arnot Teaching and Research Forest. It is owned by Cornell University and is used for student fieldwork, research, and extension activities. The forest is home to many ongoing demonstration projects and an active springtime maple sugaring operation. You’ll find a combination of unplowed dirt roads and trails, all winding through the woods. Once abandoned farmland and wood lots, Cornell University has owned this land since the 1920s. The public is welcome to explore the trails but please stay out of posted or restricted areas. Terrain: Hilly.
