Getting In & Around Ithaca

How to Get Here

Ithaca and Tompkins County has moved into Phase 4 of reopening as defined by New York State, as of June 26, 2020.

Travel Advisory for people coming to New York (you must check this list before planning a visit to NY from another state): Based upon Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order, if you have traveled from within one of the designated states with significant community spread, you must quarantine when you enter New York for 14 days from the last travel within such designated state, provided on the date you enter into New York State that such state met the criteria for requiring such quarantine.The requirements of the travel advisory do not apply to any individual passing through designated states for a limited duration (i.e., less than 24 hours) through the course of travel.

By Bus

Out of Town Coming In: Greyhound, OurBus and Shortline Bus / Coach USA operate buses into Ithaca from a variety of cities, including daily service to/from NYC.

In Town: Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit (TCAT)

TCAT operates 37 routes serving the Cornell campus, Ithaca, and the surrounding communities. Exact change is required for the $1.50 fare (including one transfer)

By Car

The main routes into the city are New York highways 13, 79, 89, and 96. Interstate 86 intersects NY State Rt. 13 in Elmira, about 30 minutes southwest of Ithaca. Interstate 81 connects with NY State Rt. 79 half an hour from Ithaca at Whitney Point, and with NY State Rt. 13 about 35 minutes from Ithaca in Cortland.
 

Bike Rental

Ithaca Bike Rental offers a variety of bike styles to rent including adult, youth and tandem bikes, located at Stewart Park on the end of Cayuga Lake. (607) 273-8364 x.157    

Lime bikes are no longer available in Ithaca, NY.

Downtown Parking

There are four municipal parking structures; one on Green Street just east of Cayuga Street, one at the corner of Tioga and Seneca Streets, one on Cayuga Street to the south of the Commons, and one on Dryden Road in College Town. The rate for all four garages is $1.00 per hour for billable hours. The three downtown garages are billable from 2:00 AM  - 11:00 PM weekdays and are free during weekends (beginning at 11:00 PM Friday - 2:00 AM Monday). The Dryden Road garage in College Town is billable every day of the week. Additionally, metered street parking surrounds The Commons.
