How to Get Here

By Car

The main routes into the city are New York highways 13, 79, 89, and 96. Interstate 86 intersects NY State Rt. 13 in Elmira, about 30 minutes southwest of Ithaca. Interstate 81 connects with NY State Rt. 79 half an hour from Ithaca at Whitney Point, and with NY State Rt. 13 about 35 minutes from Ithaca in Cortland.

By Bus

OurBus, Shortline Bus / Coach USA , Greyhound, and Cornell Campus-to-Campus operate buses into Ithaca from a variety of cities, including daily service to/from NYC.

By Plane

Located northeast of downtown, our airport has flights on American Airlines to and from Philadelphia, on Delta Air Lines to and from Detroit, and on United Airlines to and from Washington DC. Now with all jet service.


How to Get Around Here

Downtown Parking

There are four municipal parking structures; one on Green Street just east of Cayuga Street, one at the corner of Tioga and Seneca Streets, one on Cayuga Street to the south of the Commons, and one on Dryden Road in College Town. The rate for all four garages is $1.00 per hour for billable hours. The three downtown garages are billable from 2:00 AM  - 11:00 PM weekdays and are free during weekends (beginning at 11:00 PM Friday - 2:00 AM Monday). The Dryden Road garage in College Town is billable every day of the week. Additionally, metered street parking surrounds The Commons.

Bus Transportation

Tompkins Consolidated Area Transit, or as we like to call it TCAT, operates 37 routes serving the Cornell campus, Ithaca, and the surrounding communities. Exact change is required for the fare, including one transfer. (607) 277-7433

Bike Rentals

Ithaca Bike Rental offers a variety of bike styles to rent including adult, youth and tandem bikes, located at Stewart Park on the sound end of Cayuga Lake. (607) 273-8364 x157    

Lime in Ithaca allows for bikes to be borrowed 24/7 by downloading the free Lime app your smartphone (Android or iOS), and they cost $1 per ride of up to 30 mins. Plus, your first ride of up to 30 mins is always free.Traditional and electric bikes are available.

Car & Ride Sharing

Ithaca Carshare is a membership service offering 24/7 self-serve access to fuel-efficient cars, a minivan, and a truck conveniently located in Ithaca, NY. If you are looking for a short-term car rental in town, check it out!

Finger Lakes Ride Share offers a platform that includes local colleges and universities to assist with coordinating rides to and outside of Ithaca.
