Things to Do in Summer in Ithaca
Summer in Ithaca is the season of waterfalls, festivals, and lake breezes. Warm days and long evenings make it the perfect time to explore the Finger Lakes’ natural beauty, savor local food outdoors, and experience the arts scene.

Summer Activities in Ithaca: Make a Splash
Few places in New York rival Ithaca when it comes to outdoor adventures. Start with the region’s famous waterfalls. You’ll find over 150 waterfalls in the Finger Lakes, many within a short drive of downtown!
At Buttermilk Falls State Park and Robert H. Treman State Park, natural swimming areas offer the perfect place to cool off on a hot day. Taughannock Falls State Park is another must-see, where a 215-foot waterfall drops higher than Niagara, and a sandy beach at the lake welcomes swimmers all summer.
If lake life is calling, Cayuga Lake is at the heart of summer in Ithaca. Rent a kayak or paddleboard, book a boat cruise, or enjoy a swim at Stewart Park’s lakeshore beach. Families can also spend the afternoon biking the Cayuga Waterfront Trail, which connects parks, gardens, and picnic areas along the shoreline.
Where to Eat Outdoors in the Summer
Summer is made for patio dining, and Ithaca’s restaurants deliver. Many local favorites open their decks, patios, and rooftops so you can savor meals with fresh air and scenic views. Beyond restaurants, many Finger Lakes wineries, breweries, and cideries also offer outdoor spaces, where you can sip and relax among vineyards or orchards.
Beyond our restaurants, don’t miss a Saturday morning at the Ithaca Farmers Market, where you’ll find local produce, crafts, and live music. Visitors can also enjoy u-pick experiences at Indian Creek Farm (from berries to peaches) and savor the Finger Lakes harvest firsthand!
