The History Center in Tompkins County

Begin your exploration of local history! Learn about how our community grew from early Native American settlements, through the establishment of Cornell University and Ithaca College, to the building of the downtown Commons, and more. The History Center offers unique exhibitions, experiences, and educational programs throughout the year. Admission is free. On the Ithaca Discovery Trail.

We are re-opening in a limited capacity in mid-August 2020. Visits must be pre-booked on www.thehistorycenter.net or by contact community@thehistorycenter.net. We will be open Thursday-Saturday 10am-5pm and Sundays from 10am-3pm. 

The Cornell Local Research Library will be accessible by appointment only for the remainder of 2020. Contact archives@thehistorycenter.net to schedule a research appointment.
